Talking Container, 1995, glass, chrome, laminated wood, silkscreened t-shirts, 2,100 xeroxed texts; dimensions variable.

This work was made partly in response to the Oklahoma City bombing.

Democracy is not a simple, clean endeavor. It is messy, as the metaphorical scattering of the texts across the floor points out. These texts could have also literally been blown out of the formal structure holding them by the force of opposing factions within society.

It also points out the abundance of information that is available in this culture. All the sheets contain information that I downloaded from the Internet, concerning a variety of subjects, from militia groups to racism to the suppression of sexual urges through religious means.

Democracy as commercial enterprise, through the slogans presented as just more fodder for t-shirts.
